Market Report
Date:
June 2, 2008
The weather pattern in California has been warmer than normal but for the most part growing conditions are good. Lettuces and general California vegetables are coming in with generally good quality and prices are mostly stable from an FOB standpoint. Obviously with fuel prices where they are, freight rates are way up, so we are challenged to pass along the higher costs. Onions and potatoes are up again this week. Onions are gapping and the storage supply is low. Potatoes are in high demand and the supply from storage Idaho are dwindling. Russet count potatoes will remain high until the harvest later in the summer begins. Our asparagus is looking great! We have Washington state and Michigan asparagus and both are beautiful. Purple tops and superior freshness and flavor. It cost a bit more than the imported Peruvian but the quality difference is obvious. We are NOW receiving homegrown produce. Yellow squash, zucchini, turnips, peas, beets, cabbage and spring knobby onions are now available. This is just the beginning of homegrown season so please stay tuned, it should be a great year! Other items of interest this week include, rhubarb, blueberries (domestic), yellow corn, morel mushrooms and much more. Please call for more information. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS!
