in the mind of how we compete! Here is our plan to cut your
costs and help lessen our environmental impact:
Krey Keeney has been hired
as our Local Produce Purchaser. Buying local helps
our area farmers, our local economies and saves loads of fuel
from transcontinental freight. Krey is focused to
grow this segment and can save you 20% on all your KY Proud
purchases. Monthly reporting is also available.If it grows
or is produced in our Area - Kentucky Proud, Indiana Farmers
Market Program, or Pick Tennessee Products -Then we will do
our best to stock it. We are the area's buy local
food service leader that has expanded our program year after
year.
We consolidate and
return local and regional products back to our warehouse for
our Customers AND COMPETITORS. This reduces duplicate
regional trips and transcontinental freight -while greatly
helping area farmers. We have daily access to products grown
from Northern Alabama (via the Nashville Farmers Market) to
Central Indiana allowing our Local Season to extend Months
beyond our traditional season. Also, these area producers
have access to use our 7 day distribution to sell products
to nearly all of Kentucky and central Tennessee.
We have signed with
First Call Logistics to develop back haul business
for all of our operations-this freight income can negate the
cost of the city to city hauls.
Earthbound Farms Organic
Program via Produce Alliance: Year Round Program
made up of Small California farms in a collaborative to provide
Organic: Mesclun Mix, Baby Spinach, Baby Arugula, Mache, Frisee,
Carrots, Broccoli and Cauliflower. All at competitive prices.
We continue to concentrate
growth on tight rural routes that allow us to serve
small geographical areas very well with a minimal delivery
expense.
We have traded out our fleet
for modern full-lease trucks that have new 2008 fuel
and emission standards. We will transition our Service
Vehicles in 2009.
New Software implementation
gives us efficiencies in processes that have already brought
savings equal to about half the fuel increase - even at $4.50/g.
